Job Description: SAC Assistant – Kiddlywinks Childcare

Position Title: SAC Assistant
Location: Kiddlywinks Childcare
Hours: Part-time / Full-time (depending on need, e.g., afternoons or split shifts)
Start Date: August 2025
Reports to: SAC Lead Practitioner / Manager
Qualification Required: Minimum Level 5 in Early Childhood Care & Education (or relevant experience in school-age care)

Purpose of the Role

To assist in the daily running of the school-age childcare programme by supporting the Lead Practitioner in creating a positive, engaging, and safe environment for children aged 4–12 years.


Key Responsibilities

Child Supervision & Support

  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, mealtimes, and transitions.

  • Support children’s wellbeing and development through respectful, inclusive interactions.

  • Encourage participation in planned activities and promote cooperative play.

Programme Support

  • Assist with setting up and tidying away materials and spaces before and after sessions.

  • Help facilitate age-appropriate activities (e.g., games, crafts, STEM, sports).

  • Provide homework support when needed.

Health & Safety

  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and organised environment.

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including Tusla School-Age Childcare Regulations.

  • Report any concerns or incidents to the Lead Practitioner or Manager promptly.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work closely with the Lead Practitioner and team to deliver consistent quality care.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, children, and parents.

  • Participate in training, team meetings, and service development initiatives as required.


Experience Required

desirable 2/3 years experience working with children and as part of a team

  1. Person Specification

Essential:

  • Minimum Level 5 qualification in ECCE or related field (or working towards it)

  • Genuine interest in working with children

  • Friendly, flexible, and responsible attitude

  • Ability to work well as part of a team

Desirable:

  • First Aid, Child Protection, or Manual Handling or training will be given

  • Previous experience working in a school-age childcare or camp environment

  • Creative, energetic, and confident in leading small groups of children
