Job Description

Smart Steps is an established School Aged Childcare (SAC) service operating from local schools in Co. Donegal.

We have an excellent track record of providing a practical and reliable out-of-school care service for parents, offering a child-centred, nurturing, fun and friendly service for the children we care for each day.

Due to our organisation’s growth and expansion, we are currently seeking to employ a suitably qualified and experienced professional for the role of  Practicing Manager for a new facility in Carrigans, Co. Donegal.

The Practicing Manager will work closely with the organisation owner to oversee the service development and will deal with all aspects of the service’s operation.

The Duties of the Practicing Manager Include:

• Ensuring a welcoming, friendly, child-led service is provided for children of the community each day.

• Building positive and supportive relationships with the children and families availing of the service.

• Developing daily, weekly and monthly offered activity plans to meet the needs and interests of every child.

• Risk assessments and development of strategies to manage risk.

• Supervision, support, and management of the staff team.

• Communicating and engaging with Parents, Teachers, the school Principal & Board of Management, the wider community and all other stakeholders.

• Management of customer accounts and providing a high standard of customer service for parents and families.

• Management of childcare subsidies via the Early Years Hive and ensuring all regulatory compliance tasks are up to date and readily available.

• Submit weekly reports to Smart Steps headquarters to include details of duties undertaken during non-contact hours, staff attendance records and income / expenses data

• Careful and diligent management of Staff and Children’s records in accordance with GDPR regulations and in line with the organisations Child Protection & Welfare and Confidentiality policies.

• Working closely with the service owner to develop policies, procedures and practices suited to the out-of-school provision and to the needs of the school community, in line with regulatory guidance.

• Representing the Organisation online via social media & email, by phone and in person as required.

• Ensuring the sustainability of the out-of-school provision through careful management of the service budget and via regular advertisement of the service offering.

• Monitor and develop the service offering to meet the needs of families in the community as much as is reasonably practicable.

• Stock taking and ordering of supplies

• Delivery and collection of supplies and equipment

• Participating in continuous professional development courses and other courses as per the needs of the service / individual.

• Other duties may be required to be undertaken from time to time, in line with the needs and demands of the setting and / or Smart Steps.

Applicants must be in a position to satisfy Garda vetting requirements

Qualifications Required

Essential Qualifications and Skills Criteria for Consideration of this Post:

• Qualification to a minimum of QQI Level 6 / NVQ Level 3 in Early Childhood Education and Care, Playwork or a related discipline.

• Fluent in English with excellent aural, verbal and written communication skills.

• Highly developed observation skills and good attention to detail.

• Proficiency in MS office applications including word, excel, power point.

• Full, Clean driving Licence is desirable

• Up to date Child Protection and First Aid Response training is desirable – however training will be provided.

Experience Required

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience post qualification working with specifically with Children of school age.

• Minimum of 2 years Previous supervisory and / or management experience – preferably within a childcare / youth work or playwork setting is desired.

• Previous experience working with and reporting to various government organisations and departments including Tusla.

Further Information:

Successful applicants will be required to undergo 2 weeks paid induction training at trainee rates prior to being appointed Practicing Manager.

Once appointed, continuous support and supervision of the Practicing Manager and their work will be provided throughout the initial probation period of 16 weeks.
