Take a Closer Look at Your Local Library this National Public Libraries Open Day

National Public Libraries Open Day takes place across Ireland on 26 September 2026, inviting everyone to visit their local library and discover just how much is available through free library membership.

Whether returning to education, building digital confidence, improving literacy skills, exploring a new interest or simply looking for a quiet place to study, adult learners will find libraries to be free, welcoming and accessible spaces.

With a free library card from Donegal County Library Service, members can borrow books, explore eBooks and audiobooks, access newspapers and magazines, use digital resources, take part in events and enjoy services that support reading, learning, wellbeing, creativity and connection at every stage of life.

Families can discover story times, children’s activities, reading programmes and creative workshops. Students can find quiet study areas and trusted information. Older people can enjoy a friendly place to read, learn new skills, access digital support and take part in community events.
