Industrial Action by FORSA Regarding Secretaries and Caretakers in Primary and Voluntary Secondary Schools. 

Dear Provider,

The Department is aware of proposed industrial action by FORSA regarding secretaries and caretakers in primary and voluntary secondary schools.  Education and Training Board schools will not be affected. The action is due to commence 28th August and to continue on September 1st for an indefinite period.

It is expected that schools will remain open and accessible, and teachers and principals will continue their normal duties. 

Early Learning and Care and School Age Childcare providers who are licensed by local school boards of management to operate on a school premises should engage with the board of management to confirm local arrangements for continued access to their service’s accommodation across the service’s operating hours.  Providers may also wish to confirm how any relevant school maintenance services will be delivered during the course of the proposed industrial action.  Providers should also keep parents informed of service arrangements as usual.

The Department of Children, Disability and Equality is in close contact with the Department of Education and Youth on this matter.  If having liaised with your school authorities, there are unresolved matters arising please contact EYQueries@dcde.gov.ie.
