Traveller and Roma Education Strategy 2024 – 2030

Ministers Foley, O’Gorman and O’Donovan have published the Traveller and Roma Education Strategy (TRES) 2024 – 2030. The Strategy is a key action under the National Traveller and Roma Inclusion Strategy 2024-2030 (NTRIS II) and is also a commitment in the Programme for Government.

It has been specifically developed to meet the needs of children, young people and adults from the Traveller and Roma communities with the aim of enhancing their education and outcomes in consultation with the Traveller and Roma communities. The Early Learning and Care and School Age Childcare Traveller and Roma aspect of the Strategy draws its actions from the new Equal Start model.

Actions in TRES include:

·        Equal Start, new funding model with universal and targeted supports for ELC and SAC services supporting marginalised children

Key Objective:

·        Ensure equal participation of Traveller and Roma children in pre-school up to the level of the general population

Actions include:

·        Additional payments to 800 target services and focused child targeted payments

·        Two additional posts in Better Start focused on Traveller and Roma supports

·        Reviewed and revised Equality and Diversity training and resources

·        Family Link Workers to be appointed to support the full roll out of the Tusla Traveller Parenting Support Programme.
